Los mineros de la \u00e9poca colonial tallaron el primer santuario dentro de la mina a comienzos del siglo XX, como un lugar para que los trabajadores rezaran antes de sus turnos. La catedral actual, terminada en 1995, se construy\u00f3 sobre ese sitio original, transformando la mina en operaci\u00f3n en un espacio que recibe cientos de miles de visitantes cada a\u00f1o. Las tres naves descienden cada vez m\u00e1s profundo en la monta\u00f1a, hasta llegar a la c\u00e1mara principal, donde la c\u00fapula central se levanta sobre una enorme cruz tallada en la roca. Los arquitectos trabajaron con la geometr\u00eda natural de la mina y no en su contra (las paredes de sal rugosas, las superficies irregulares, el aire fresco y seco), y el resultado es algo que se siente como si perteneciera al subsuelo, no como algo impuesto sobre \u00e9l. Tu gu\u00eda explica no solo la ingenier\u00eda, sino la historia: el comercio de sal de los muiscas, las explotaciones mineras coloniales, los santuarios del siglo XX y las decisiones detr\u00e1s del dise\u00f1o de la catedral. Para cuando llegas a la c\u00fapula principal, ya tienes el contexto para entender de verdad lo que est\u00e1s viendo.<\/p>\n<h2>Laguna de Guatavita, el verdadero El Dorado<\/h2>\n<p>La parte opcional de la Laguna de Guatavita le suma mucha profundidad al d\u00eda. Guatavita es una laguna casi perfectamente circular dentro de una reserva natural, a unos 50 kil\u00f3metros al nororiente de Bogot\u00e1 y a 3.100 metros de altitud. Era sagrada para los muiscas mucho antes de que llegaran los espa\u00f1oles, y es donde se hac\u00eda la ceremonia de El Dorado: un ritual en el que el nuevo cacique, cubierto de polvo de oro, hac\u00eda ofrendas de oro y esmeraldas desde una balsa en el centro de la laguna. Los espa\u00f1oles oyeron relatos de esta ceremonia y pasaron d\u00e9cadas buscando la fuente del oro. Lo que buscaban era esta laguna, y los muiscas, no una ciudad.
