Vale la pena saber eso antes de llegar: Chicaque existe porque alguien decidi\u00f3 que val\u00eda la pena protegerlo. La experiencia que tienes en el sendero es en parte resultado de esa decisi\u00f3n. El bosque de niebla es una categor\u00eda ecol\u00f3gica espec\u00edfica. Se forma donde una cobertura de nubes persistente mantiene la humedad extraordinariamente alta todo el a\u00f1o, lo que sostiene una densidad y diversidad de plantas que a su vez sostiene todo lo que est\u00e1 por encima en la cadena alimenticia. Los siete tipos de bosque de Chicaque incluyen bosque de niebla como tal, bosque de transici\u00f3n y secciones de bosque altoandino que no se parecen en nada a lo que asociar\u00edas con un parque a un trayecto corto en carro de una capital. Se han catalogado m\u00e1s de 3.000 especies de plantas dentro de la reserva, junto con 20 especies de mam\u00edferos, entre ellos el oso de anteojos, que tambi\u00e9n se mueve por el Reserva de Chingaza<\/span><\/a> al nororiente, y las aves que se mueven entre todo eso.<\/span><\/p>\n

El rango de altura, entre 2.000 y 2.700 metros, pone a Chicaque en la zona de transici\u00f3n entre el bosque andino bajo y el bosque de niebla como tal, que es precisamente donde la diversidad de aves llega a su punto m\u00e1s alto en la cordillera Oriental. Un gu\u00eda hace legible este bosque de una forma que explorarlo solo no logra. Las especies que vienes a ver suelen ser invisibles hasta que alguien que conoce el bosque se\u00f1ala un movimiento en la parte media del dosel y lo identifica por el canto que son\u00f3 tres segundos antes. El inca collarejo, la tangara lentejuelada, el abanico pechinegro, el frutero verdinegro: son aves que premian ese caminar lento y atento que es dif\u00edcil sostener sin alguien que dirija tu atenci\u00f3n. El trayecto al sur desde Bogot\u00e1 cruza la Sabana, el altiplano que rodea la capital, y empieza a bajar hacia el parque por un paisaje que pasa por etapas de lo urbano a lo agr\u00edcola y al bosque. En una ma\u00f1ana despejada, el mirador en la entrada del parque da una de las mejores panor\u00e1micas que hay cerca de Bogot\u00e1: los picos nevados de los volcanes del Tolima, Santa Isabel y el Ruiz visibles al otro lado del altiplano, hacia el occidente. La caminata cubre aproximadamente tres horas de sendero activo, con la tarde reservada para profundizar en la ecolog\u00eda y un almuerzo tradicional para cerrar el d\u00eda. La geograf\u00eda muisca: un nombre que vale la pena entender<\/span><\/h2>\n

El nombre Chicaque viene de la lengua de los muiscas, el pueblo ind\u00edgena que ocup\u00f3 la Sabana de Bogot\u00e1 durante siglos antes de que llegara la colonizaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola en 1538. En muisca significa \u201cmonta\u00f1a poderosa y grande\u201d.
