Cuatro d\u00edas a pie hasta una civilizaci\u00f3n que el mundo olvid\u00f3<\/span><\/h2>\n

El Trek a Ciudad Perdida en el Parque Natural de la Sierra Nevada es una de las caminatas de varios d\u00edas m\u00e1s importantes de Suram\u00e9rica<\/strong> \u2014 y una de las menos valoradas fuera de Colombia, a pesar de su importancia hist\u00f3rica y cultural. Ciudad Perdida es un sitio arqueol\u00f3gico precolombino construido por la civilizaci\u00f3n tayrona en alg\u00fan momento entre los siglos VI y X d. C. Es varios cientos de a\u00f1os m\u00e1s antigua que Machu Picchu. A diferencia de Machu Picchu, que nunca estuvo realmente perdida para las comunidades que la conoc\u00edan, Ciudad Perdida qued\u00f3 tan completamente escondida por la selva que el resto del mundo no supo de su existencia hasta 1972, cuando la descubri\u00f3 un grupo de guaqueros que segu\u00eda rumores de una ciudad antigua en lo profundo de la Sierra Nevada. El gobierno colombiano asegur\u00f3 el sitio y lo abri\u00f3 al turismo regulado en 1984. Hoy el acceso lo manejan las cuatro comunidades ind\u00edgenas cuyo territorio ancestral ocupa, los kogui, arhuacos, kankuamos y wiwas, y el n\u00famero de visitantes diarios est\u00e1 estrictamente controlado.<\/span><\/p>\n

No hay otra forma de entrar. Llegar exige cuatro d\u00edas a pie.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

D\u00eda uno: las laderas bajas y los primeros cruces de r\u00edo<\/span><\/h2>\n

La caminata empieza en El Mamey, un caser\u00edo al final de la \u00faltima v\u00eda que entra a las estribaciones de la Sierra Nevada, donde tu gu\u00eda te recibe y arranca el recorrido. El primer d\u00eda cubre las laderas bajas: senderos de selva, los primeros cruces de r\u00edo, la adaptaci\u00f3n a la humedad y al ritmo. La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta es la cordillera costera m\u00e1s alta del mundo: un macizo que sube desde el nivel del mar hasta m\u00e1s de 5.700 metros a menos de 50 kil\u00f3metros de la costa caribe\u00f1a, y que crea un ecosistema de una diversidad vertical extraordinaria, desde selva tropical de tierras bajas en la base hasta picos nevados en la cima. El sendero a la Ciudad Perdida atraviesa la mitad de esa cordillera, a una altitud que combina el calor y la humedad de las tierras bajas con las lluvias y los cambios de temperatura de las tierras altas.<\/span><\/p>\n

D\u00eda dos: el r\u00edo Buritaca y el corredor sagrado<\/span><\/h2>\n

El segundo d\u00eda sigue el r\u00edo Buritaca, el curso de agua que ha sido la principal arteria de movimiento humano por esta parte de la Sierra Nevada durante miles de a\u00f1os. Las comunidades kogui, arhuaca, kankuama y wiwa consideran toda la Sierra Nevada un espacio sagrado, y el valle del r\u00edo es uno de sus corredores de mayor significado espiritual. Tu gu\u00eda explica la relaci\u00f3n entre las comunidades ind\u00edgenas y el paisaje que est\u00e1s recorriendo: su concepci\u00f3n de las monta\u00f1as como un sistema vivo, su papel como guardianes de un territorio que, seg\u00fan ellos, regula el equilibrio ecol\u00f3gico de toda la costa Caribe.<\/span><\/p>\n

D\u00eda tres: los 1.200 escalones y la ciudad en s\u00ed<\/span><\/h2>\n

El tercer d\u00eda llegas a la escalera de piedra de 1.200 escalones, construida por la comunidad tayrona como entrada formal a su ciudad, y subes hasta el sitio. Ciudad Perdida se extiende por una ladera abierta en la selva: terrazas circulares de piedra, plataformas, caminos y los cimientos de las estructuras que albergaron una sociedad urbana compleja en su apogeo. El sitio es enorme. Los estudios arqueol\u00f3gicos han mapeado cientos de terrazas en un \u00e1rea de varios kil\u00f3metros cuadrados, aunque solo una parte est\u00e1 abierta a los visitantes. Estar parado en la plataforma ceremonial principal, rodeado de selva y nubes, mirando obra en piedra construida hace m\u00e1s de mil a\u00f1os por una civilizaci\u00f3n que el registro colonial espa\u00f1ol apenas menciona, es una de esas experiencias que recalibran tu idea de lo que Colombia realmente es.<\/span><\/p>\n

D\u00eda cuatro: el regreso<\/span><\/h2>\n

El regreso del cuarto d\u00eda hace la ruta al rev\u00e9s: El Mamey y luego el trayecto de vuelta a Santa Marta. La exigencia f\u00edsica de cuatro d\u00edas de caminata en la selva, el calor, los cruces de r\u00edo y los cambios de altura hacen que llegues de vuelta a tu hotel con una relaci\u00f3n distinta con tus propias capacidades a la que ten\u00edas cuando saliste.<\/span><\/p>\n

Antes de ir: lo que el trek realmente exige<\/span><\/p>\n

Una buena condici\u00f3n f\u00edsica no es opcional para este trek. Varias horas de caminata al d\u00eda por terreno irregular son la base. Botas impermeables, una capa para la lluvia y bolsas impermeables para aparatos electr\u00f3nicos y documentos son esenciales. Los mejores meses son de junio a agosto y de diciembre a febrero, cuando los senderos est\u00e1n m\u00e1s secos.<\/span><\/p>\n
