When people talk about brunch in Bogotá, they usually picture poached eggs, croissants, and cappuccinos. But what we found at Bagatelle goes far beyond that, it’s not your typical brunch spot. It’s a space where freelancers, young professionals, and the occasional dog share tables under soft sunlight. It’s brunch with Wi-Fi, espresso refills, and a side of ambition.
This newest location of the French-Colombian bakery chain has become a hybrid of boulangerie charm and creative energy. And yes — it’s as photogenic as it is unapologetically pricey.
A New Kind of Morning Crowd
The house itself feels like it was reborn for this generation: modern murals, light wood chairs, plants climbing the patio walls. The first thing we noticed was the pet-friendly terrace — not just tolerated, but celebrated.
“That’s why we created a pet-friendly terrace where your four-legged friends are always welcome,” the team proudly states.
Upstairs, a full coworking floor: fast Wi-Fi, outlets, generous tables, and calm lighting. It’s a clever shift from “brunch place” to “morning headquarters.” The terrace hums with laptops, mimosas, and flat whites.
Service started strong — friendly, attentive, without being intrusive. When we hesitated between two dishes, our server offered to bring one on the house “so you can taste it and compare.” That gesture alone says a lot about Bagatelle’s philosophy: generosity wrapped in French manners.
The Menu: Where Paris Meets Bogotá’s Appetite
Bagatelle’s story starts with Philippe Zerbib, a Colombian of French descent who studied pastry at Le Nôtre in Paris and trained under master chocolatier Jean-Paul Hévin. His dream was simple: to bring the essence of a boulangerie française to his hometown — a place where Bogotá could taste authenticity, not imitation.
The Calle 64 location keeps that dream alive but adapts it to a younger rhythm. It’s still the same croissant and baguette, but now next to avocado toast and laptops.
What we ordered
Croissant Sandwich (Ham, Egg & Cheese): buttery, flaky, and perfectly warm — a classic executed with quiet confidence.
Avocado Toast: multigrain bread topped with guacamole, two poached eggs, and cherry tomatoes — bright, healthy, and photogenic.
Huevos Bénédictine: poached eggs with leg ham, melted cheese, and a soft oat bread base — heavier but comforting.
Fresh Juice and Specialty Coffee: we went with orange juice and a cappuccino, both solid; nothing revolutionary, but reliable.
From first bite to last sip, the execution was consistent: delicate textures, real butter flavor, clean seasoning. The avocado toast was the crowd-pleaser; the Benedict leaned rich but satisfying.
It’s the kind of menu that works equally for Sunday families and solo freelancers who want to turn their breakfast into a full work session.
Pricing? You’re paying for the experience — both the food and the atmosphere.
The Coworking Twist
This is what truly separates Bagatelle Calle 64 from other brunch cafés: its hybrid nature.
The coworking floor is quiet, bright, and practical. You can spend hours here, coffee by coffee, working on your laptop or holding a casual meeting. It’s a luxury that feels earned — the kind of place that invites you to slow down but stay productive.
Meanwhile, downstairs, the pet-friendly terrace keeps the social side alive. Dogs lounging under tables, owners chatting over croissants — the vibe is effortlessly European but distinctly Bogotá. It’s hard not to feel a little romantic about it.
Pro tip: arrive between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. if you actually want to work. By noon, the brunch crowd doubles and the noise level rises.
Service and Small Details
Bagatelle’s staff feels trained in the art of balance — warm yet precise, relaxed yet alert. They check in without interrupting, and they don’t mind laptops or photos (a big plus for anyone in creative fields).
Visually, the restaurant strikes that sweet spot between café minimalism and patisserie indulgence: clear display cases full of tarts and baguettes, wood accents, golden light, and that subtle background soundtrack — classical music mixed with ambient jazz.
A few diners online mentioned that in some other Bagatelle locations, noise becomes an issue. We didn’t feel that here early in the day, but it’s something to keep in mind.
What Worked — and What Could Improve
What impressed us
The concept: a perfect blend of French bakery tradition, modern brunch culture, and coworking practicality.
The execution: every dish tasted intentional, especially the baked goods. You can tell Zerbib’s roots are in pastry.
The service: thoughtful and flexible, rare in places this busy.
The design: open, calm, and inviting — a space you can stay in for hours.
What could be refined
Pricing: we’d love to see slightly more generous portions or creative twists to justify the upper-tier prices.
Lighter lunch options: not everyone wants a heavy dish while working — more balanced plates could broaden appeal.
Pet-friendly logistics: the terrace is lovely, but with dogs and laptops sharing space, the flow can get chaotic at peak hours.
Who It’s For — and Who It Isn’t
Come here if…
- You’re a freelancer, remote worker, or creative professional who loves good food and needs an inspiring space to work.
- You enjoy european pastries but want a social, modern setting — not a silent café.
- You want to brunch with your dog (and show them off a little).
Skip it if…
- You’re looking for something quick or cheap. This isn’t a “grab-and-go” bakery.
- You need complete silence for work meetings. The energy here is sociable, not library-like.
- You’re indifferent to ambiance — half of Bagatelle’s value is in the experience itself.
Final Thoughts
Bagatelle Calle 64 isn’t just another brunch spot — it’s a mirror of Bogotá’s new rhythm: ambitious, social, hybrid. It keeps the soul of Philippe Zerbib’s French origins but adds a distinctly Colombian pulse — creative, restless, and cosmopolitan.
It’s not cheap, and it’s not meant to be. It’s the kind of place you go when you want your morning to feel like a small occasion — when you want to write, brainstorm, or simply exist beautifully for a couple of hours.
We left with that slow satisfaction only a well-designed morning can give: one avocado toast later, our dog asleep beside the chair, the laptop still open, and a croissant waiting for round two.
