The hotels we recommend are in the north of the city and the airport is at its southern edge, so the drive in crosses most of Barranquilla. And it is hot: the middle of the day is when you want to be in an air-conditioned car, not in a taxi line.
BAQ to your hotel
The north of the city, El Prado, or out to Puerto Colombia and the sea. A host meets you inside arrivals with a Safe Transfers sign, your flight is tracked, and a late landing does not change the price.

The river and the mangroves
The Gran Malecón runs for kilometers along the Magdalena, Bocas de Ceniza is where the river finally reaches the sea, and the boardwalks of the Mallorquín lagoon go out through the mangroves. Start early, before the heat.
Carnaval
Carnaval runs for four days and ends the night before Ash Wednesday. The city fills, and the parades close the roads they run along. If Carnaval is the trip, book the transfer when you book the hotel.
West to Cartagena
Barranquilla to Cartagena
The coast road west to the walled city, for a flight out of Rafael Núñez or the second half of a two-city trip: the working river port first, the showpiece second.
East along the coast
Barranquilla to Santa Marta
Across the Magdalena and along the strip of land between the sea and the Ciénaga Grande, through the Isla de Salamanca park, to the old city at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, where the roads to Minca and Tayrona begin.
Barranquilla to Palomino
The longest run on this page: past Santa Marta and Tayrona and over the line into La Guajira, to where the Palomino river comes down from the Sierra to a long beach.
